They removed the microphone icon in the messenger and I can't see how to get it back.

Try this

Phone Settings

General Management

Keyboard list and default

toggle on Show keyboard button on Navigation Bar

You should have a microphone or keyboard icon in the bottom left corner

if it’s the keyboard icon long press it and select voice input

Yeah I just got it to do that, hate the fact they moved it to the navigation bar, I am a one handed left thumb typer and my phone case makes it difficult to press that microphone in the far left corner. But yeah I got it back at least. It needed to stay where it was at the top row of icons on the keyboard app itself.

Not sure why yours just disappeared since they moved it almost a year ago when 6.0 was released

If you don't like having the microphone button in the lower left corner, you can add that function to the spacebar.

Go to Settings > General Management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Swipe, touch, and feedback > Touch and hold spacebar.  Change the setting to Voice Input.  Now you can activate voice input by long-pressing the spacebar.

That worked.  I spent almost an hour at a GCI store and the assistant tried everything.

Thank you so much.

One of the problems I keep running into is software engineers changing menus, so instructions, like the one's given here, don't seem to apply to me. Here is what I did to solve the problem of accidently deleting my mic input.

Settings => General Management => Language and input => On-screen keyboard => Samsung keyboard => Reset to default settings.

This did the trick.
