A Series & Other MobileTo report and block in Google Messages, you have to have turned on spam protection in the messages settings, then long press the chat and tap the dot menu and select "report as spam". The entire chat will be reported and sent to the spam and blocked folder. If the report and block option is unavailable to you and you want to delete the chat, long press on the chat, and on the top menu, you will see the trash can icon. Tap that and send the chat(s) you want to trash. Unlike the recent call list, there is no block and delete option. It is block or delete. As stated, if you block and report, it gets transferred to your spam folder (and all subsequent messages from those number should end up there without notification). Periodically, you should review the spam folder to make sure that something you want did not end up there by mistake, and you can unblock it. You can, and should, delete all the spam messages long pressing the first message and then tapping each subsequent message to delete. You can reach the spam folder by tapping your initial on the top right and tapping spam and blocked.

A Series & Other MobileDo not interact with the chats, not even to remove yourself. If you are using Google messages, block the chats and report as spam, they will go to your spam box and you won't be notified. Those are scam chats hoping to convince you to give up personal info. If you remove yourself, they know they hit a live number.

A Series & Other MobileBlocking the numbers basically does what blocking it does for phone calls. You still get it, but you don't get notified. If you use Google Messages and turn on spam protection, any chat or number you block or mark as spam will go to the spam & blocked folder and you won't see them or be notified of them unless you check that folder. Known spam ends up there automatically, so you might be surprised to see stuff there you never marked yourself. I do not believe that Samsung Messages has a similar feature. I don't use Samsung Messages, so I don't know for sure.
