Hi All,

I have a Samsung A13 and a Samsung A16 phone.

I am interested in tracking my luggage on holiday, so I am looking at the Smarttag2.

I know my phones don't have Ultrawide Bluetooth (UWB), but I cannot seem to find anything about how (or whether) the Smarttag2 would work with my older phones?

Does anyone have any experience of using Smarttag2s without UWB enabled phones? Would they work at all?

Thanks for any help you can provide!
Todd.

Without UWB, you can ring smart tags and get approximate location in map view, but you are unable to use the more precise "move around to find device" feature.

Thanks.

Do you know what kind of "spatial resolution" I can get without UWB?

I read that Smarttags have a beeper. So, could I get close with my non-UWB phone and then activate the "beep" to find my suitcase? Would I get close enough to hear it?

As long as your device is within range of the tag, it will make an audible sound, regardless of UWB. They are not particularly loud. I personally find that they are not nearly as useful if your device does not have UWB.

there are three ways to track your tags:

  1. Lost Mode: you can setup Lost Mode before you arrive to airport, simply put your contact person (phone number & e-mail) and in Lost Mode you can put small message, so whoever found you tag can scan your tag thru NFC and read your message
  2. Ring: as other person mention you can ring your tag, BUT only when you are withing tag range
  3. Offline Finding, at airport or any crowded place, there are so many other Galaxy Phone users walking around, they can help you to find your tag location when you lost it, simply open SmartThings > your tag > offline finding. Offline finding will locate your tag from whom near your tag, so you can get estimated location

but tbh SmartTag2 isn't that reliable, the best way is never lost your luggage, but if the worst scenario happen "you lost your luggage" so you need to use three of ways i mention above.

Remember SmartTag2 can't connect to the internet by itself, SmartTag2 rely on bluetooth connection and other Galaxy users around it
