So, I reached out to Samsung through the beta feedback and finally got a response. Turns out, in the latest implementation, holding the volume down button no longer mutes your phone, it just sets the ringtone to vibrate. If you actually want to mute your phone now, you have to swipe down to your quick panel and tap the ringtone icon to put it on mute.

Honestly… who thought this was a good idea? It makes something that used to be quick, simple, and discreet, into a multi-step hassle. There are plenty of times like in a conference, a movie, or even while I'm out, where I need to silence my phone immediately, and this new process only makes that harder and inconvenient.

It wasn’t broken. Why "fix" it?

Curious if anyone else as annoyed by this change as I am? Would love to hear what you all think. Adding extra steps to mute our phones is completely unnecessary. If we don’t speak up now, there’s a good chance this will end up being permanent in the final update.

I'm really crossing my fingers that Samsung fixes this in the next beta update. In the meantime, feel free to submit feedback regarding this issue. The more complaints we have, the more likely it'll be looked at!

Totally agree that it should be like it was. It was much easier to mute

Create a routine that can be saved to your lock screen as widget and see how that works.

I've been using their method since the jump. You get used to it.

It takes 1 step to put your phone on vibrate via rocker, 3 steps to silence your phone and 3 steps to change phone into a mode (theater, sleep, etc) via the quick panel. Using your bottom volume rocker with 1 long press was either gonna go to silence or vibrate. Their stats likely show more people want to put their phones on vibrate rather than silent. Now here we are.
