So I switched from a s20 ultra to the s22+ and I've noticed that the battery has a shorter life even with battery saver on and brightness down. Is this due to the new hardware or the software draw? And is there any way to displace the power draw to make each charge last longer?

It's the inefficient snapdragon processor.

I could be wrong but I thought battery life was always shorter in the beginning until your phone learns your usage patterns

It's the processor not the phone. Processor is the one downside to the S22 Series.
