Not a big time photographer but night time pictures don't look good at all

I agree. The portrait mode isn't working or processing properly.

I agree. I took these night shots of the stars on the beach in Montauk N.Y. last night . Very clear night and beautiful to the eye ,but not even close with the camera in night mode.

The best thing to do is to use pro camera mode and lower your speed settings,it will increase the time your shutter closes letting in more light.It will take more than your speed settings to get the right photo but that's one setting you want on manual
