It's never had it. It's power menu or Bixby. There was never an option for Google or Gemini. Even in 6.1.1

Bixby Modes and Routines.
Buttons is the last option when adding a routine. Map all your hardware buttons for long press and double press.
I have Gemini mapped to long press of the side key (power) and double press for the camera. Works fantastic. 1740354118541.jpg

This works but it just opens the gemini app and doesn't activate the microphone when you are holding the button and deactivate when releasing. You still gotta tap the mic icon. It would be nicer if it worked like the bixby button on older devices

Make sure you have the latest version of Gemini and have all the permissions set in the app.

I was running Google Assistant but upgraded to Gemini via Google Assistant.

When I long press the side key it activates Gemini with the Mic, even when the screen is off.
The side key power button is the only button that works when the the screen is off.
Mine is set to double press for the camera. Both work flawlessly.

Hope this helps!

I double checked, Gemini is updated to the latest ver and does not have any permissions required. What did work was instead of setting up the action through Modes and Routines, using RegiStar you can edit side key press and hold action and switch it to 'Access google voice assistant'. This brings up the assistant with the mic ready like it should, but if you select to just open an app, it opens the Gemini app but without mic... Not sure how you got that to work but there's multiple ways at least

Good super sluething!
I had forgotten that I even did that with RegiStar but that appears to be the missing link and what I did to get it to work.
I actually just use routines to control the volume output when Gemini is launched. This way, the voice output is just what I want each time and not dependant upon where I have the media volume set at any given time. See screenshots.
Glad you were able to get it sorted out. It is a very nice feature.1740703467015.jpg1740703467038.jpg1740703767665.jpg

In "Good Lock," select Registar module, then for side button hold select Google Assistant.

Gemini replaces Google Assistant. If it hasn't, select it (Gemini) from your Google Assistant settings.
