Messages, samsung keyboard, and the return key

Surely I'm not going crazy. Within the messages app if I hit the return key it would create a new line 

Like this. (Pressed it twice).

After an update when I press the return key in the messages app it sends the message instead of creating a new line. Is anyone else experiencing this? Can it be disabled or is there a workaround?

UPDATE: I had an update for google mesaages in the play store. After performing said update everything is back to normal with the return key. It was an update from 03/20

Are you using Google messages?

They may be adding a enter to send option and you were one of the lucky A/B testers.

I tested this on Samsung/Google messages and both do not have enter to send

Yes this is only occurring within the google messages app. Apologies for not being clear which messages app on the front end.

I also have this issue.... If you find a way to fix it, please tell!

It appears as though this is limited to Google Messages, as I first noticed it today - 3-20-26. Messages I composed yesterday have line breaks and I am able to use the enter key in other apps to create a line.

I remembered I am in the Google Messages Beta, so it's possible it's a function they've just turned on.

You are correct. So far I've only seen this limited to google msssages.

Easy line breaks here.

I just tried it this again on Google messages. If you hold the enter key it does send:
- tap for new line
- hold to send

Granted your A/B test could be different
