If I'm using Google messages and I get a few messages. Open up messages and clear the new ones it should clear the notification from the status bar. It's not. I have to manually pull down the notifications and clear it.
Though, I am using Google Messages and not experiencing this. They clear automatically for me.
Have you tried clearing the cache of Google Messages? And have you tried wiping the cache partition of your device using recovery mode and then rebooting?
Have you reported the issue to Google? As they are the ones that fix bugs in Google Messages.
