Background Color

I want to add a theme to the Google message. Where do I need to go to change the background color of a message?

Open conversation > three dots, top right > change colors

Color options are a bit limited. This changes ONLY the conversation you are currently in.

Default colors in Google Messages are based on Color Palette, which can be changed via Home Screen > pinch > wallpaper and style > color palette

Make sure you are inside of a conversation. You cannot get there from the conversation list.

Have you checked the Play Store to make sure your Google Messages app is up to date?

Have you tried changing colors in different conversations? My menu looks like yours when the message is from somewhere other than an individual's cell number, such as a marketing message, one time pass code, etc.

@CEParsons I've never seen anyway to change the background colors in Google Messages.

As have I! Very strange indeed. @Lucy12 can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

You will only see the color change option in RCS messages, not SMS messages. If you don't see it in the main menu of the chat, select "details", then you will be able to change the color of that conversation (as well as the notification sound for that chat, if you want). You will only be able to change colors of RCS conversations, not SMS.
