I am wondering if anyone else has recently experienced an issue with the auto deep sleep apps function.

When I got my Z Fold 7 in July I realized the new phone and no existing history of app usage on the phone was going to result in apps being slated for sleep. As I received notices for the upcoming apps I would check which apps were included and choose to remove ones I didn't want to go to sleep. No big deal.

Now, in the last week, I had 37 apps go to deep sleep and realized I didn't check the last notification. My issue is that of the 37 apps that were included last week, a majority are apps I use regularly and a few I use almost every day. Of the 37 only 11 or 12 are legitimately apps I don't use enough to care.

Doesn't use of the app keep it from being added to the deep sleep apps?

Yes — that’s exactly right.

If you use an app regularly, Android (and especially Samsung’s One UI battery management) typically won’t place it in “Deep sleep” automatically.

If you want to make sure an app never gets deep-slept, go to:
Settings → Battery → Background usage limits → Never sleeping apps,
then add the app there manually.

You can remove apps from deep sleep and then, as @Jules411 said, put them into never auto sleeping apps. At any time, you can remove apps from sleeping/deep sleep categories and add them to never sleeping and you can set newly installed apps to not be automatically put to sleep.  Putting apps to sleep or in deep sleep means they will still work, but won't run in the background to update or find new content or send you notifications (deep sleepers).  They will, however, update and deliver new content as soon as you open them.

Thank you I am aware of the option to remove the apps from sleep/deep sleep. My point was the apps that I use were included in the last sweep my phone performed and I was interested if anyone else had any issues with that happening. Also, I was wondering if my thoughts on apps that were used regularly are not automatically included with apps that are sent to sleep. I have slated various apps as never sleep or deep sleep and thought some of the recently added to sleep were on my never sleep list. I could be wrong about that but the apps had been and still are used. Two I have issues with because of no notifications and updates are banking apps. I don't want to not receive notifications if there are issues with attempts to access information or use my accounts. Also I am not comfortable with personal information on apps that aren't receiving updates if they have been put to sleep.

When you select the battery optimization and choose put unused apps to sleep, apps you haven't used in the past 30 days are included, even if you consider that you use them regularly. If you use an app less than once a month, it will be put to sleep unless you exclude it by adding it to never sleep.

Thanks again for the reply. I am talking about apps that are used often. More than once a month. More than once a week. In some instances apps that are used daily. The battery optimization feature is the issue and manually adding apps to the never sleep category should solve the issue, you would think but just this morning I had my notification for apps slated for deep sleep and there were apps that are used often and had been added to the never sleep or deep sleep apps but they were slated for deep sleep again. My original post was asking if anyone else has experienced this which I still wonder if anyone else has experienced this. Thank you for the suggestions but I think I have an issue unrelated to the settings.

I feel your frustration for the responses...I had a 579 day streak on Duolingo then missed 3 days within a week. I couldn't understand why suddenly I was forgetting to do it and forgetting so frequently. Then I had the idea to check the deep sleeping apps and sure enough, Duolingo had been put into deep sleep! Despite having been used (almost) daily for 579 days! My streak was saved by a friend and I've put the app on the safe list but even so, that's really buggy behaviour!
