I'm currently using Z Flip 6 with One UI 8. When the "Fingerprint always on" in settings is on, touching the side button with my (registered) fingerprint wakes the screen up and unlocks the phone.
If this function is on for main screen, fingerprint does wake the main screen up and unlock no matter whether the phone is locked or unlocked. However, if the function is on for cover screen, fingerprint wakes the cover screen up and unlock ONLY IF the phone is locked. To be specific, when the flip phone is folded and the cover screen is off, touching the side button with my fingerprint does not wake the cover screen up and unlock if the phone is already in an unlocked state (by Extend Unlock, manual unlock set by Routines, etc.).
Basically, the "Fingerprint always on" function must be consistent for both cover and main screens. When the phone is in an unlocked state (with the "Fingerprint always on" function on for both screens), fingerprint wakes the main screen up when the phone is unfolded, but it does not wake the cover screen up when the phone is folded.
I'm not sure if this behavior is introduced by the new One UI 8. Am I the only one experiencing this?
Have you checked to see if there are separate cover screen settings to modify the behavior to your desired settings? I do not currently own a z flip, so I cannot check to see.
If you feel this behavior is an error, send feedback to Samsung by visiting the support tab in this app and navigating to "Send Feedback."
As a workaround until the behavior is adjusted, press the side key to unlock. This should be a small adjustment to your desired usage as the fingerprint sensor is embedded in the side key and you will have to touch it regardless. Alternatively, consider disabling Extend unlock to make sure the sensor remains active, per your description.
