They updated our devices that had stand alone dex with a keyboard and mouse so it was gone and only usable with wireless or external displays. Then they announced it would only be available if you bought their crazy expensive $2800 trifold. NOW ITS DISCONTINUED. I wonder if Samsung will reverse course on that change now? It's stupid they removed/restricted this functionality from people that were using this effortlessly. ๐Ÿคฌ

The Trifold has been canceled due to super high production costs and basically zero profit. [edited]

DEX is still very much alive for Samsung flagship phones, like the s26U, which just got 'New DEX' for One UI 8.5. DEX for PC was discontinued some time ago.

It could just mean that they have a completed the production of the last limited batch, yet will not be producing any more first gen trifolds going forward, and wish to deplete the stock.

Ok so I should go break out my Bluetooth keyboard and stand, and I'll be able to sit on a plane and use **bleep** mode again? I don't think so because I was referring to " stand alone" and they updated the feature so it no longer works that way on ALL dex devices and told us all to buy this pricey device if we wanted it

I'm not sure what you mean mlby 'stand alone'. To use DEX you have to have a Samsung device; a phone or a tablet. I have wireless DEX on my Z Fold 7.

Stand alone: you could enable Dex mode previously on your phone and have a display like it does on a wireless display or on a USB connected display. You didn't have to connect it to either of those for it to happen. That means power uses like me could bring their Bluetooth keyboard with a touchpad on it and set up my Galaxy fold 4 on a little stand on an airplane and not have to lug around a laptop and work in desktop mode. That is no longer true with the recent updates and if you look into this you'll see a large number of ticked off people because they simply updated the functionality away. And then promptly released the Galaxy trifold phone and said that it was going to be the only mobile phone device that was going to be able to use it so you'd have to buy this expensive, new device in order to use desktop mode independently of any other exterior displays. Are you following me now?

Yes, but I open my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to my Z Fold 7 and use it the time. I don't need to use DEX to access the mobile apps already on my phone. DEX has always been the idea of replacing your laptop or PC's core processing functions with your phone's for a PC like experience on a monitor or TV, which is exactly how they have marketed the platform. If you aren't using a monitor or TV for a display. There's no need for DEX to be running that I can see.

As a, now retired, accounting-professional-but-still-a-power-user, I just don't see an issue. Perhaps you can tell me what I'm missing by not running DEX as you describe it.

I mean the prices are ridiculous. You can buy a full PC for a fraction that does more in the apps than Android ones do.
