Now all of a sudden youtube music app turns off when button is pressed to turn off screen. After update to android 15 OneUI 7 it had ran with phone screen off.
Drove to store with phone screen off and music playing, got back in car, started car, music would always play when play button pressed on infotainment, would also start playing when conncted via Bluetooth without opening app. It does not now, that was odd, went back in app to hit play, turned screen off, would not play... Does not play with infotainment system play button now, unless app and phone is up, open, and unlocked now. Lots and lots of ads now, all of a sudden. In the middle of songs/tracks playing now...
What the heck happened to this app? How strange!!!
This may be an issue with the YouTube app since they want users to pay for premium service in order to be able to listen to music with the screen turned off.
If you're willing to download apps from other sources, F-droid has a couple of apps that might interest you.
You can't sign into a YouTube account with either of these, but if you only want to listen to music with the screen off, there shouldn't be a problem.
1. NewPipe. This will let you listen to YouTube in the background or with the screen off. It also blocks YouTube's advertisements.
2. Tubular. This is a fork of NewPipe that adds additional features. It displays Dislikes and adds configurable SponsorBlock options to skip promotional segments, reminders to "like and subscribe", etc.
