I cannot connect my friends airpods to my phone. it doesn't show up on the list and I've tried everything

This is interesting... Since there are Airpods, check YouTube. Apple has a video about how to connect AirPods to both iOS and Android.

Airpods should have a pair button on the case which you press and hold for a few seconds while your phone is searching for Bluetooth devices.
