Galaxy Note PhonesI installed a PNY 512 GB micro SD card but it is showing as only 472 GB. I selected format in storage setting and rebooted but it still only shows 472. I would like to know if there a problem with this card

Galaxy Note PhonesNo, no problems per-say. Typically the Background processes and services take up a chunk of the space on both the internal and external SD card. You should be able to go under storage and SD and see what that space is being taken up by.

Galaxy Note PhonesThanks for the prompt reply. I did see it earlier but am just now having time to respond. I just wanted to make sure I was being clear with my issue. It's not that I have 472 GB of available space, the card is registering as 472 GB total capacity. What has me puzzeled and disappointed is that, Samsung is advertizing the potential of 1 TB of potential storage but 984 GB is not a Terabybe. I know that I'm talking about is a relatively small amout of space but words do matter.
Thanks again for your time

Galaxy Note PhonesIt's not a problem of the phone. Most card manufacturers nowadays essentially cheat the consumers, by stating X gb and then at the tiny footnotes they explain that 1gb = 1 billion bytes, so they just redefine what the gb is for their marketing convenience. Check what the webpage of your card says at the very bottom:
https://www.pny.com/512GB-PNY-Elite-microSDXC-Card-CL-10-90MB/s-with-Adapter
So 512"gb"/1024^3 = 477gb (actual), which is close to what you see.
These things should be simply illegal! God bless capitalism!
My hope is that the upcoming Samsung card will actually be 512gb.

Galaxy Note PhonesWell... you know me and math. I'll be sure to fire off a strongly worded email to PNY! That's 40 GB they are jerking around with and my 1TB bragging rights no less.
I'm out! Thanks for all the help
