I have a Samsung Note 8 that was purchased about 2-1/2 years ago.  It has worked fine until this week.

The phone has Android version 9 with security patches as of 1 June 2020.

The phone works fine when I am in a wifi location.  When I am out and about, the internet does not work, but the phone can make and receive phone calls.

Anyone have a suggestion of what might be causing this problem?

You are right.  Going to the Verizon.com website provided me access to a custom troubleshooting wizard for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.  This brought me to the problem, which was a configuration issue.  On settings, connections, data usage, somehow 'mobile data' got turned off.

I turned it back on and the problem went away.
