NOTE 9 EDGE LIGHTING DOES NOT WORK WHEN SCREEN IS OFF

I have been playing around with my note 9 settings for a couple of days now, and I still can't seem to get the edge lighting to work properly when the screen is off (locked), even though the "Always On Display" is on.

At first it worked, then for some reason it just stopped. And no matter how many different settings I tried, it couldn't get it to work again.

So far, the only workaround that could help it work is if I set the pop-up notification to on. If the pop-up notif is on, the edge lighting work. But it is REALLY ANNOYING that every time I pressed the home button, instead of the home screen / lock screen, I am greeted by the pop-up, and I have to close it first to get to the lock screen.

I read that this has been a common problem for S8 and S9 users, but I haven't found any thread for Note 9, although I'm fairly certain mine can't be the only one.

IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET IT TO WORK WITHOUT HAVING TO TURN ON POP-UP NOTIFICATION???

This has been a common problem for quite a while now, I don't understand why Samsung doesn't even try to fix the problem?

I noticed with WhatsApp it seems to be that you have to allow setting "show popups" in WhatsApp's notification settings. After this the edge lighting for WhatsApp should work. Of course the tradeoff is those horrible popups when you open the screen but...

I bought my Note 9 3 days ago. I've double, triple, and quadruple checked all my settings and my edge lighting does not work either. Everything is updated too, so I'm a bit stumped as to why it's not working

Thank you for this info! As this is a non-US model and support for these models is very limited, please seek support for your area. You can do so here: http://www.samsung.com/visitcountry  Thanks!

But the problem is world wide...

This forum topic was my first result when searching for 'edge lighting screen off note 9' on duckduckgo.

I am going to hang around to hopefully hear a fix 🙏

FYI to folks in this thread. The Edge lighting has been broken since the 8.0 upgrade. It stopped working on my Note 8 and has never worked on the 9 I bought ... even though it's running 8.1.

They know this so giving your model, baseband and all that is meaningless. It's a known issue and affects every model in every country. It's something broken as of 8.x for this feature. Maybe it'll get fixed in the Android 9 update but then again maybe not.

Cheers.
