So it seems you contacted your carrier and they provided some sort of attempt at fixing it, although that doesn't sound like a fix...
if the carriers end up not being much of help in fixing you can also try submitting error report to Samsung Members after the issue occurs again, or is reproduced.
You could additionally visit UBreakIFix or Batteries Plus for hardware checkup on the SIM tray.

If your phone or tablet is misbehaving, it's possible that a third-party app is causing the issue. To figure out what app is acting funny, you can use the Safe mode feature. In Safe mode, your device won't run any third-party apps. This allows you to easily identity and remove the app that may be causing the problem.
