I have 2017 Subaru Legacy and the new Note 8.
The phone will connect via Bluetooth without a problm but it cannot connect or charge via a USB cord. There seems to be some kind of issue with the "Mirrorlink" software.
I called Subaru and they had no solution except to take it to dealer. I brought it to dealer who advised that they did a software upgrade but it didnt resolve the issue.
I contacted Samsung , by phone and they had no solution.
I am using the original USB cord.
If it helps, i had no problem connectng an iPhone vis USB to same car
Can you provide a solution?

all Japanese car usb port doesn't support samsung devices since it doesn't support mtp.
MTP stands for “Media Transfer Protocol.” When Android uses this protocol, it appears to the computer as a “media device.” The media transfer protocol was widely promoted as a standardized protocol for transferring audio files to digital music players using Windows Media Player and similar applications. It was designed to allow other media player companies to compete with Apple’s iPod and iTunes.

so the way that the samsung devices communicate with PCs and other usb devices is MTP. so in this case, the japanese cars (in your case, Subaru) don't support MTP. none of the japanese cars on the market does. hope this makes it more clear
