Punctuation missing above the letters

I have no idea what happened or how to get it back. I have a Note 10+, and the keyboard used to show the punctuation above the letters. For example, I could hold down the letter M and get a ? to display on the screen or hold down the letter A and get the ! but now that option isn't there any longer. I detest needing to toggle between the two keyboards to get the punctuation. Is there any way to get the old keyboard back?????

No, no themes.

Open keyboard, hit settings, find layout, toggle alternative characters.

I can't seem to find the GBoard as an option. *sigh* Things never work correctly for me when I'm working through a haze of pain. 😞

Open the Google Play Store ... search GBoard ... install , then in Settings, set as default
