Battery drain on One UI 7

NOTE:

Nothing presented here is intended as a cure-all for battery drain. Your mileage may vary with the tips listed below. Some things are beyond the scope of this community to address and will require a fix from Samsung. 

Many users have reported excessive battery drain after the One UI 7 update. A few things to keep in mind: 

1. It's a new OS. It will take time for it to relearn usage patterns. This can take a week or two. 

2. People tend to use their phones more after such a large update (trying to figure everything out), even though they may think they're not. 

3. If you haven't done so yet, clear the device cache partition. Steps are listed below. This partition contains cached system files from the old OS and needs to be manually cleared so the new OS can start fresh and generate its own files. This should be done after every software update. 

That said, now that the One UI 7 update is more widespread and increasingly more users are reporting in, it's known that the battery drain primarily affects S24, S25, and foldable devices, although it has also been confirmed as affecting other models. Samsung is thought to be working on a fix, which may be included in a monthly update, but nothing has been confirmed by the company. 

How to clear the device cache partition:

1) Turn off your device. Depending on which device you have, you may need to connect to another USB device (ex: computer) before proceeding to the next step.

2) Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Side/Power button until you feel a vibration and the Samsung logo appears. Let go of the buttons.

3) You will now be in Android recovery. Use the Volume buttons to highlight "Wipe cache partition."

4) Press the Side/Power button to execute.

5) Use the Volume buttons to highlight "Yes."

6) Press the Side/Power button to execute.

7) "Reboot system now" will already be highlighted. Press the Side/Power button to execute.

In addition to clearing device cache, here are other things you can try to help with battery drain: 

- Enable dark mode to conserve battery life (settings, display).

- Turn off the always-on display (AOD) to minimize energy usage (settings, lock screen and AOD).

- Clear cache for One UI Home to address potential software conflicts (settings, apps, One UI Home, storage).

- Switch to the “Light” performance profile to reduce power consumption and heat generation (settings, device care, performance profile).

- Download Good Guardians + Galaxy App Booster to optimize app performance and improve system efficiency (Galaxy Store).

Thanks. This was the biggest update in years and a lot has changed. I know it hasn't gone smoothly for everyone. There are a lot of strong reactions out there. Just trying to share some knowledge to make the transition a little smoother.

I'm liking the new update. I was jus concerned with my battery life.

Glad you like it. You're right to pay attention to battery. Anything could be affecting it after such a large change to the system.

I have a S24+.   This update has significantly impacted my battery life.   No amount of customizing features is worth the severe loss of battery life.   I paid a lot of money for my S24+ and don't appreciate it being rendered lifeless in a short span of time.  If it is not fixed by Samsung soon, I feel a class action suit is justified.  I am NOT buying another phone, if that was Samsung's intent.
