Bluetooth prioritizing connecting to vehicles is annoying

It's so frustrating that vehicles are always priority with Bluetooth and there's no solution I've seen yet. In the mornings I'll run my car to warm it up inside and when I walk to a room that's close to the car my headphones will lose audio because the car always takes priority. Is there a way to prevent other Bluetooth devices from taking over rather than letting me decide to switch? If there isn't please can this be changed. Why are cars and car Bluetooth accessories always capable of taking over audio output? Why don't I get a chance to choose when to switch?
