Can anyone confirm whether the DeX Pad (the rectangular pad, not the round Station) is compatible with the Galaxy S10e and other members of the S10 family? Are there any specific software versions needed or limitations?

Yes DeX pad works from S8 to S10 devices. You should be able to use it on S10e. As I think for s9 and older devices android pie was needed but as S10e already comes with pie there is no any software required, but there are certain apps made to be able to use in DeX for better performance you can download it in Galaxy Store.
