Google Messages: Group Messages not downloading the message and sending as separ

I got 2 messages from unknown people today with a down arrow in an open box. I blocked both phone #s. Then I got the same icons from 3 friends. I clicked on the 2 down arrows from 1 friend. It immediately opened and showed her as sending a GROUP message that included the 2 people that I had just blocked! I didn't touch the arrows in those 2 that I previously blocked. Even though I blocked them, it obviously did something for me to get messages from 3 friends with the same down arrow in a box. Now I have just gotten another text from another friend in that group of 4 with nothing but the down arrow. So, what did I unleash by clicking on that down arrow in the box? And why would clicking on that down arrow immediately send a message from that friend when it could have been sent without the message not being able to be sent unless I clicked on the down arrow? To me, it had to have at unleashed something when I clicked on the down arrow????? Does anyone know what's going on? I tried doing a search on the internet but I couldn't find that down arrow in an open box anywhere.

By the way, when I get a message with the down arrow in the box, all the message says is "Not available."

Depending on your settings, Google Messages will only download RCS message automatically using your mobile data plan that are 100MBs or less.

Google Messages / your account icon / Message settings / RCS chats1732165457982.jpg

That's the download icon to download a MMS message.  It happens sometimes when the MMS doesn't auto download.  It may not have been anything you did.  It may be a carrier issue.

Like realaud said above, it means the messages you received in that group just didn't quite make all the way to your device. Sometimes a carrier issue, sometimes you just in a good cell signal area. You'll probably get the whole group in the middle of the night, if you haven't already. 😂
