Group messages won't download

Over the last few months all group messages I recieve 1st come across as a multimedia message in an individual text. I then have to "download" the message and then it will show in the group chat. This has been happening on both my S9+ and my wife's S10+. We both have group messages enabled as well as auto download MMS.

Are you using the stock messaging app on your device?

I was having the same problem. I reset my network settings and it cleared up the issue for me on my S9.
Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings
