Icon badges disappear when I swipe notifications away

I really love almost everything about this phone other than the way app icon badges work and it drives me absolutely insane. Sometimes I get a text or notification that I want to read later so I just don't read it and swipe it away, but as soon as it's swiped away the app icon badge dissappears even though I didn't read it. IOS keeps the badge until you have actually read the message and it's nice because it reminds you to check the app if you have a lot of notifications unread.

It's called clearing the screen kinda like a dismiss function ot goes away

Yea i hate it i have 20 unread messages but no notifications so it doesn't show up. There should be the option to do either way.

Not like you don't know you have messages as you clear the notification

Well, you do have choices. Either read your messages when the notifications come in, stop swiping away the notifications, or just check your email/messages on a regular basis. It seems to me you should remember that you had notifications of messages during the course of a day.
