Galaxy S PhonesI want to execute a more efficient Apps Tray action triggered from pressing my left-side cell phone button..
Does anyone have a nice alternative, preferably free without any ads or data mining..?
Trials & Errors:
🤖 Using Samsung's Modes & Routines (only Routines is needed.. require a Samsung account? I'm not sure.. data mining? ..probably, but not sure..)
Samsung's App Tray is not a built-in feature of Android's OS, therefore we may not have a direct action to get there without some help..
Routines doesn't have a direct Apps Tray action to assign, and it doesn't have all the needed external device buttons to be used as triggers either..
Good Lock's Routines+ also does not add the left & top buttons..
👹 Using Google's Action Blocks, requires an account and tells you in clear language that they will data mine your complete world for using Action Blocks. Pros: ? Cons: ? Moving on.. ~1 tracker.
? IFTTT? Needs a Google account.👎 ~2 trackers.
? Tasker? Not free. ~$3.50 ? trackers.
👌MacroDroid? Demo-mode is free, it ads & nags you until you pay them..😑 They have an AppsTray action, but they don't have my the buttons to trigger.. Popular and easier to work with than some of the following choices, if paid..$ ~30 trackers.
🤓 AProfiles? Is a little complex, it's more like Samsung's Modes than the others, one starts with Profiles, then defines device settings & features to run or not run during those profiles.. But, they have no Apps Tray action and no button triggers that I could see working for me.., does anyone have experience on this..? ~3 trackers.
👾 Automate? It's like M.Droid stripped down to the same essentials and free for everything except program size, most ppl are not looking for running large programs, probably the uplift is very reasonable, the Dev(s) are still giving it support & updates, its community is or was large, the code repository remains large, I can say my Qs were answered overnight.. Fun to use, 2 support forums, left & top button triggers work, but no App Tray action.., couldn't they just steal it from M.Droid..? Lol. 0 trackers.
So tell me if any of you know a good solution to help me get the macro I want..! 🙂
UPDATE: While I had Samsung's Routines doing a semi-reasonable work-around, I recently found this app to do what i wanted and much more..
🧡 KeyMapper! Open-source, on GitHub, free, no-ads, no trackers, loads of good things inside, and even more features like floating keys if one pays Seth & Jack for their awesome work, also very very well documented!👁️
With this app I'm able to map all my device's external buttons, and do everything all the earlier apps can do afaik, without a hassle at all, god bless FOSS.

Sorry, can't be done. You can, however, add a button to the apps screen on your home screen. Why, I don't know, since it's very easy just to swipe up. Settings/home screen.

Those are your limits, not anyone else's..
💁 I predict that he'll have an insulting comeback to bolster his lack of macro ability..

Galaxy S Phones
Then buy a device with the feature you desire.
