I bought a 256 gb Samsung Evo Select MicroSDXC in March '21, and used it in my Galaxy S9+ until August '22 when it was a couple gb away from being full. I popped it in my laptop, transferred all the pics and videos to an external ssd, and tried to delete the pics/vids from the Evo but it wouldn't let me, saying it was write protected. I then tried to format on the PC with the same write protection error message. Then I ejected it from PC and put it back in the phone, and the phone won't recognize the card for use although it gives the option to format it but only spends a couple of seconds saying it's formatting but nothing happens.
I've followed online instructions for removing write protection with command prompt and disk utility but didn't make any difference. I can still access the files on a PC, open them, transfer them etc, but I can't delete anything or format it due to the write protection I can't remove. Any ideas? Am I posting in the right place?
Please note if your SD card is not being recognized by your phone or tablet, it may be in an unsupported file format or damaged. Try using a new card instead.
Hello, thanks for the response. None of the steps in the link work because the card thinks it has write protection on, but I can't remove it with the windows disk utility and I don't know how else to remove it.
I'm assuming the card is just unusable at this point. I paid $30 for it in March 2021 and it lasted til August 2022 under very normal mostly indoor conditions. While it wasn't a huge monetary loss, it's still annoying to have to replace it with so little use and I could have lost very valuable pics, videos, sound recordings etc. If a replacement could be issued that would be great. I have to report the same issue with the same card: after using this card for two months it is seen as read-only by Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I cannot format it under windows or linux because it is read-only. I cannot remove the read-only flag using diskpart. I cannot format the card using SD Card Formatter v5 tool.
