Sharing/attaching photos on S9+ slow (minutes) or broken

A few months now attaching photos to ANY messaging app I have (Threema, Viber, Slack to name a few). Weirdly, problem appears greater with freshly taken photos. If they are shared from the Gallery app, the process simply takes minutes or fails. If I try to attach a photo from these apps the photo thumbnails selection shown includes proper thumbnails of older photos but black squares for the fresh ones, and it takes minutes for them to appear.

Installing updates and restarting the phone does NOT help, the problem keeps coming back.

This solution was proposed in a different board on this issue (https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S-Phones/S9-message-app-slow-attaching/td-p/1143353) that was created over a year ago. I tried it, as did many other people following that board, and it is only a short-term, temporary fix. It would be great if Samsung would acknowledge that there's a problem and actually fix it, rather than continuing to propose the same few solutions that aren't a long-term fix.

Same problem here.  Samsung knows about this but hasn't fixed it.  Only way to temporarily fix is by clearing Dalvik cache.

I've been having this issue for over a year, and none of the solutions proposed by Samsung have been long-term fixes. The issue exists regardless of whether I use the Message+ app or Messages app. This was my first Samsung phone, and it will absolutely be my last because of Samsung's unwillingness to take these customer complaints seriously and fix the issue.

I recommend that you try the following troubleshooting steps here.

  • Make sure your phone is up to date on its software
  • Place your phone in safe mode to see if the issue persists.
  • Clearing the cache partition on your phone.
  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
  4. An 'Installing system update' message will show for 30 - 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
