bypass or remove "Swipe screen to unlock" while still using password

Recently changed from S4 to S7 and I'm wondering what the purpose of this screen is, and if it's possible to bypass/remove it.

Screen is black. Press power button or home button. Screen comes on with wallpaper and says, "Swipe screen to unlock". Swipe across the screen. THEN, finally, we're at the password entry screen.

On the S4 I used to have, waking the phone resulted in the password entry screen directly.

What's the point of this additional screen? Can it be disabled, WHILE continuing to use a password?

Thanks for any help. Let me know what other info you need, if any.

Re: bypass or remove "Swipe screen to unlock" while still using password

This was something the S7 always had. Part of the reason was the fingerprint unlock. Also, the S7 no longer is receiving updates from samsung. There unfortunately is no way to get rid of it without rooting your phone. If possible, consider upgrading to a newer device. Even the new samsung phones still have that swipe to unlock.
