Galaxy s10 Poor Bluetooth audio quality. It sounds distorted/compressed

JUMP TO SOLUTION

I have noticed a pretty annoying bug in my s10. When I connect my phone to a car, speaker, or headphone over Bluetooth in order to listen to music, the audio sounds compressed. What I mean by that is the audio quality is noticeably lower which results in crackling and distortion.

A few weeks ago I managed to temporarily fix it by disabling the “calls” option in the options of the Bluetooth device. However, I noticed that after the latest update, this fix does not work anymore. I have spent the past few hours looking for a new fix but I haven’t found anything.

My troubleshooting steps so far:

  • Tried AUX cable, distortion went away

  • Booted in Safe Mode, same issue

  • Checked EQ settings, they were flat / "Normal"

  • Removed phone from car's Bluetooth device list and re-added

  • Developer Settings

    • Tried every Bluetooth audio codec

    • Tried increasing sample / bit rate

  • Spotify

    • Disabled battery optimization

    • Allowed background activity

    • Cleared app cache

    • Cleared downloads

    • Re-installed application

    • Disabled volume normalization

    • Ensured high quality was selected for cellular and Wi-Fi

      • Tried downloading and using download cache to play music

  • Tried Google Music, same quality

  • Tried YouTube Music, same quality

I am pretty sure it is caused by the "dual audio" option in the advanced Bluetooth settings. Try to disable that.

JUMP TO SOLUTION

Had an issue with the Bluetooth sound quality. the sound was very low with no base and sounded very distorted. When the phone was connected to the car Bluetooth or my bose headphones for about 1-2 the sound came out perfect then disappeared again. The sound only went back to normal if I went to Bluetooth advanced settings and turned on the Dual Audio however that only lasted for about 25seconds before it went back to the poor sound quality again. I found a solution which worked with my phone, from day 1 the equaliser was set to custom and all the sound option were all the way down I clicked on Normal and it sounds much better.

  1. Settings
  2. Sound and Vision
  3. Advanced sound settings
  4. Sound quality and effects
  5. Equaliser
  6. Normal

@WickedApple It could be the source of the audio from your device is not high quality and the music app you are using may need to change settings. Did you turn off dolby atmos option try to turn that off or On if theres any difference.

I have the same problem, very annoying. I now am forced to listen to the radio. Please fix it. I don't want to buy a new car if mine 2013 citroen DS 3 radio doesn't have bluetooth 5.0 to get the best connection best sound. The Huawei mate 20 pro, also bluetooth 5.0 i don't have any sound problem.

My son just got one and he has said the same thing about the sound. Another issue was during calls he would fade out it wasn't because of bad signal it was the sound issue having problems during calls.

I think I fixed it. However, I don't know how exactly... The last thing I did was disable every option in the advanced section of the Bluetooth settings. I am too scared to start messing with it again to uncover which of the options fixed it... If you try, let the rest know!
