How I destroyed my S10+ after 3 weeks only

JUMP TO SOLUTION

So, here we go, this happened last night and this whole day was a mess, I never felt so bad in years, this got to me heavily, so here goes.

I got the S10+ 128 GB 3 weeks ago, on Nov. 15 to be more exact.

Put a case on it (a cheap one for the time being as I was very low on money at the time).

No screen protection aside from the one which came with the phone.

Last night was the first time I ever dropped it, it was about a half a meter drop as I dropped it from my waist level on a stair. Phone cracked in the right upper corner but it's a very very small crack, and the phone went completly dark, aside from one centimeter of the upper part of the phone.

The strange reason is that sometimes, the always on display background pops up with the proper time and date. But most of the times, when I press the power buton, there's just a flash and that's it. I got Samsung Care, phew, so it will cost me about 60-70 bucks to fix it. Still, look at this, is the screen completly gone? Maybe just a sensor that would be easily replaced (I don't mind the crack in the screen that much).

I'll attach some photos and a short clip about the flash down below.

What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for reading this much and have a wonderful day!

As this is physical damage and physical damage is not covered under warranty, I would recommend taking your device to a certified repair technician to have the screen evaluated for repair.

I wouldn't be surprised if they make you replace the phone. It happened to me with my Note. I have Asurion (unfortunately) and they forced me to replace it.

I mean, everything is on google drive as a backup so that wouldn't really upset me. Wouldn't it be cheaper for them to just replace the screen? Also, the original warranty still doesn't cover the screen? Only through Samsung Care+ and for a fee?

Not sure about Samsung Care but with Asurion they explained that when the screen isn't responsive they just replace the phone.

That's always a possibility with any edge to edge screen phone--if it lands wrong a drop of less than a foot can crack the display. Since nearly every brand uses Gorilla Glass (the low end Pixel 3A uses Dragontrail Glass because it's cheaper) it doesn't matter whether the phone is from Samsung, Huawei, Google or Apple--they all use Gorilla Glass.
