In Settings, Dropbox account says "Sync off for all items" ???

I have been using my lovely Galaxy S10+ for a couple of months now and I have been having sync problems, notably with my Dropbox account. It's the same account that I've been using for over 6 years now and I have always changed phones via SmartSwitch.
When I go to
Settings>Accounts and Backup>Accounts>Dropbox>Sync account
it says "Sync off for all items" and the "Sync now" button is greyed out, i.e. unavailable.
I have repeatedly checked my Dropbox account itself and all items are set to sync on that end.
Can anyone help and tell me why I can no longer sync my Dropbox account and perhaps suggest a solution?
