I would recommend trying to wipe the cache partition you can use the directions below.
Wipe cache partition
I opened Samsung cloud, other synced data and manually synced my messages. I opened the messages app and turned off text previews. I closed the messages app. I opened system settings apps and cleared the cache and data for the the messages app. All my messages synced back into the messages app and text previews is turned on by default.
If clearing the system cache partition doesn't resolve the issue this might be another good troubleshooting step.
Clearing the system cache partition is always my first choice after system updates and sometimes randomly just to refresh the cache files.
