Unable to disable quotas on dev/block/platform because system/bin/tune2fs is missing

Unable to disable quotas on dev/block/platform because system/bin/tune2fs is missing

That's the message I saw in recovery consule. What does this mean in layman talk and is it a big deal. Will if affect my phone?

Re: Error message I see

After updating to Android 10 on my partner's Galaxy S10, whenever the phone got to restoring backup data, the phone restarted and ended up in recovery mode with the following error cause:

#Reboot Recovery Cause is [Binder:1271_7:2235 Recov]#
E:[libfs_mgr]Unable to disable quotas on /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/userdata because /system/bin/tune2fs is missing
#Reason is [RescueParty]#
Supported API: 3

I'm not able to restore my partner's backup data because of this. The phone won't start until we do a factory reset, but when we try to restore the data again, the S10 does a reboot recovery again, after which we need to reset the phone again. 😢

Re: Error message I see

How was the backup performed? It looks like it may be corrupted.

Re: Error message I see

Well, after performing the update with all the personal data still on it, it got to the recovery mode with that error. No backup restore was performed.

So then I reset the phone, trying to restore data from the Samsung Cloud backup restore function.
Then during the restore process, it did the reboot recovery with the error.

Re: Error message I see

It sounds like somehow the recovery got corrupted which is why you can't restore the phone.

Re: Error message I see

If the update from android 9 to 10 went well, it wouldn't have had to do a recovery reboot. So I'd say something got corrupt during the update.

Re: Error message I see

You can have the phone reflashed by a technician at a local uBreakiFix, that way if it is the software it should resolve the symptom. If the reflash does not work your best bet would be to consult a data recovery specialist, however, that is not something the Samsung warranty covers.
