There are thousands of "lucky ones"... definitely outnumber the few unlucky. And I know how it feels to be that unlucky one, I've been there and had a phone bricked by a failed update before... But in this case, a factory reset is actually not a bad solution. It shouldn't be a big deal with all the data being backed up to cloud services. It's inconvenient, sure, but this problem can be fixed by users themselves in a matter of minutes.
