Cannot add esim "couldn't connect with SIM"

I'm working with the provider on this, but I thought I'd try here. I have an s20+. I recently used an esim in Canada. now I'm trying to add on for Europe. When I scan the qr code and enter the code, it fails. Message is "No ESIMs Found", then "couldn't connect with SIM. Try again later.". This is extremely unhelpful. I am connected via wifi at the time. 

Does anyone have ideas? There's a "Lock eSIm Settings" option in my esim manager, but I have no idea what it means and I haven't touched anything there

The lock option Is using your phone code or fingerprint to add or remove ESIM

I'm having the same issue with an s20+ right now. I have ATT.
I have tried 3 different eSim QR codes and have not been able to add the eSim.
I'm now wondering if it's an issue with the S20+ phones

Has anyone had any luck with this yet?  I have a S20+ with Verizon and tried adding their esim and then also tried one from US Mobile and neither will add.  With Verizon it gets to about 8% then dies and with US Mobile it dies at 89% every time.
