Whenever I shake my samsung s20ultra it makes this sound like something is loose on the inside. This never happened on my note10plus. I usually shake my phone to tale screen shots and now when I do on the ultra it makes a sound like something is loose in the camera area

Hello @dortyboy ,

As @userQQHQoe49tl stated "This isn't a problem. It is just the lenses of the camera moving around when not being used. The lenses are stabilized with electromagnetism. When they aren't used, they will move around as there are no gears or mechanics to hold it into place."

Its very unusual. Let me know if you find a solution or hear anything from Samsung

I would not be surprised. I heard it on a previous phone as well.

Multiple cameras on this phone have optical image stabilization and the zoom lens all have moving parts.

When you shake it, that is what you are probably hearing. IMHO.

Don't hold your breath for an answer from Samsung though.

I have it too, I wonder if it is a sensor for movement. That would be a big flaw for such a new phone.

There were reports of it happening with the s10 too.

It is the camera lenses in the phone that rattle a bit when being moved like that.

If you look up the teardown videos from JerryRigEverything, you can see the lense of the cameras move.

Hi @dortyboy and everyone.

Yes I noticed it too at Unpacked last month. At the time I was told that it maybe a pre-production unit or whatever, but after watching some tear downs, I have a theory. While there were some reports of click or weird sounds coming from previous models, it's not the same thing. With S20 Ultra it's louder and definitely much more noticeable, but try this... if you open the camera and try shaking the unit, the rattling sound stops completely. Close the camera and it returns. I believe it's the zoom lens autofocusing system. The lens are positioned sideways, and they are on tiny rails, moving left and right when focusing, so when camera is not in use, they move freely when you shake your phone.

I don't think it's harmful to the device, but of course I'd say try not to shake your phone on purpose too much.

Yeah, I even returned my phone because of this!!! When I got the second one I had to look it up. Oh well, that was a lot of work for nothing then!
