Why was the paste option replaced with "extract text"?

Just noticed a few days ago that my options have changed, and paste is no longer available, and extract text has taken its place. I can do what I need from clipboard, but it's just one more step everytime. Why, Samsung?

"Paste" used to be available where "Extract text" now is.

Uh! Give it try by selecting any text and press copy and then try paste it again. šŸ‘

I already had text copied to clipboard. Before, there was a "Paste" option that pasted the most recent thing copied to clipboard.

This is from my s20. For me, extract text comes up when I have nothing to paste, meaning I didn't copy anything. After I did copy, my option to see paste popped upScreenshot_20230908_100808_Messages.jpg

I have S23+. The Clipboard does not popup. No way to select words to copy and no copy command unless there is a fill in area on the page.
