I am trying out the Google Messages app due to the recent prompts to do so. It seems to be working ok, but I have not found a way to change the incoming text notification sound. Hopefully this is possible. If yes, can you please reply with the procedure. Thanks.
You have to enable notification categories in the phone settings. Go to settings/notifications/advanced settings/manage notification categories for each app. Then return to the app settings and tap on notifications and you will now see the header for notification categories. Tap that, make sure that incoming messages is enabled, tap it and then select your incoming message sound. If you want to give a particular conversation a separate notification sound, you would enter the conversation, tap the 3-dot menu and select details. You will then be able to change the notification sound for that conversation.
