Incoming calls do not display on screen.

I can't recall what may have preceded this...but, .Incoming calls aren't displaying on screen....

When the phone starts ringing, I have to swipe down the notifications and find the incoming call notification, tap it and then the call appears on screen so that I can answer it. 

Most solutions involve turning off notifications for phone...but that option if greyed out for me, and thus is not an option. 

Is there a reset in my future?

Does it happen only when you are on other apps or even when you are not using the phone?

both ok lock screen and when using other apps.

Too many bells and whistles they put in. Check your phone Settings AND your Phone App settings.
