Is it normal for Instagram calls to absolutely kill my wifi?

Im on the S21 and when i do Instagram calls for a while my wifi speeds completely tank and i have to turn it off and on again or sometimes it'll just completely disable my wifi even though it's still enabled

That is definitely not normal. I'd suggest talking to your phone carrier!!

My phone's unlocked just like my previous s10 which never had this kind of issue

Personally I see "facebook" or "instagram" I'm thinking immediately "well there's your problem".

If the issue only occurs when using "Meta corp." software maybe they're the support you need?

Have you tried a network monitor app?
It sounds like your activity might be triggering heavy local net traffic, like DDOS attacks even. If it's not some instagram bug with rogue bots getting out of control mining your personal data

No conspiracy theories lmao. Something i forgot to include was i never had this issue on the S10 and older phones so i need like real solutions this is obviously a tech issue and not a "im being attacked". And another thing I should've mentioned is that I've not seen any slow down with my wifi on any other device or my router itself it's apparent that it's solely my phone that's causing the issue and not the Instagram app itself.

lol, well it does kinda sound like something maybe using a lot of wifi. There's different things that can cause that. I've had people try to cram bulk email through my phone before in the past, and everytime google play services does a surprise unauthorized update download in the background my connection gets temporarily jammed.

Monitoring network traffic in the phone and/or wifi router might help track down the source if heavy unauthorized network trafic is the cause

But that just doesn't happen over my router. 3 phones 4 computers 1 TV and even when any of those devices are using a lot of the Internet the speeds are still atleast useable to browse tiktok and stuff. But for my case even when it's connected when i go on a call it becomes completely unusable until i turn it off and on. I can still see video perfectly fine in that video call.

there was a tenant at a place I stayed that had gotter the router admin access and configured his connection in the router to take priority over everyone else, the effects sound similar. Everytime he ran something everyone else was basically cut off or extremely slow while his stuff ran normally. So instagram video is running normally, but everything else is nerfed? Interesting.

Everything else on the phone specifically gets nerfed as you said LOL just like every other device in the house will work perfectly fine and at their right speeds + Instagram video will work fine. The only thing that messed up is downloading anything on the phone, browsing tiktok even the Instagram home page and any browsers but the video call looks crisp and every other device is fine and uneffected
