At this point, I'm just infuriated. Like, what do you want from me? I don't have WiFi, and AT&T apparently doesn't allow the updates through cellular data for God knows why. So what is the point of manditorily telling me to connect to WiFi for an update if I don't have access to WiFi? There's no way to shut that off! There is nothing more flipping annoying than being in the middle of a game or a movie and having your phone pop up with a screen-covering notification every couple of hours prompting you to do something that is quite literally impossible. Some of us do not have the means to update the thing until we manage to find a place with WiFi, so being told to connect to it every 2 hours is about flipping pointless. Quit making our phones try to squeeze blood out of a stone and make an off option for that notification!

Wow, just wow!  What makes you think you need WiFi to create an account?  A Samsung, and a Google account only requires an internet connect to get created.  Cell phones can connect to the internet over cellular signals, and therefore you can easily create an account using a cell phone not on a WiFi connection.

Do we all need to consult you to see if you allow us to have devices in this day and age?  Why do you get to be the gatekeeper on how others use their devices?  You do realize that Smart Phones are predominantly cellular signal things right?  The OP is perfectly within reason when asking why they need WiFi when their device is perfectly internet capable.  It is the Cell phone companies who are behind the times here by not allowing updates over Cellular, just because it was a problem in the past when providers were not allowing unlimited plans.

What's with these moron replies? Especially from the rude pencil neck nerd.. This is a common problem. Especially in rural areas. I love how cell phone carriers force you to use data from another supplier to keep the phone that uses their system up to date even if you have unlimited data. If you have unlimited hotspot on another phone in the house, you can use that.
If your carrier has a local branch, they can do it too. What makes this worse is when you do finally get on WiFi, it's going to download and install last June's update and restart, then last July's update...

I've experienced the big backload of month's worth of updates a long time ago on another phone. That was a bad time. What's weird is that sometimes, if I just don't get around to WiFi for like over a week, it'll just go ahead and download it. Other than that, I'll have to wait until I'm at like the laundromat or something in order to update it, so the thing will shut up. All in all, I just wish they would let you shut the notification off, or even at least let you set like an amount of time until you want it to remind you again, like 24-48 hours or something. Thanks for the kind answer and solutions.

iPhones now get the same treatment since 2018. Postpone too many times, and your cellular data access will be blocked until you update.f7b9d9eb-eb89-4c85-9010-349d5eff1715 (1)_1000014886_1678941507.png
