Hi,

My S21 just updated to one UI 7. I can't get past the welcome screen and I'm hoping someone might be able to help.

My screen is broken & only one half works. This was no issue with one UI 6 as I had set home screen to be landscape mode.

This one UI doesn't do landscape mode so I'm stuck on the welcome screen. I can click start as it's in the middle but I can't click next as it's on the right and turning the phone sideways doesn't change the orientation.

Is there any way around this? Can I revert to the old version? Can I get passed the welcome screen. It tells me the side button is Gemini now but nothing happens when I press it.

You can do landscape mode in OneUI7.  The same way you set it in OneUI 6.  Long press on the auto rotate icon in the quick panel and choose to have your lock screen and home screen rotate to landscape mode.  But, I guess you can't get to that setting if you can't get past the welcome screen. Is there a skip option on the welcome screen?  I do not believe Gemini can be accessed if the phone has not completely finished setting up, which it hasn't if the welcome screen is still on.  Try forcing a reboot by long pressing the side button and volume down button simultaneously until the phone reboots.  Although, I do not know if this will work with the button remapping.  I think it may be time to get your screen fixed or look for a replacement phone.  Why should you have to struggle to work around a defective screen?

Thanks for the reply.

I don't feel it's relevant why someone is looking for an answer but I'll share that I only use this as a work phone and then only as an authenticator to log in. No I can't get to the settings. Reboot does nothing. Hoped there might be an alternative.

Thanks again šŸ™

Won't work if the rotation is not working and the rotation won't work until the phone is unlocked and fully booted up.

Then I guess OP needa to talk to their employer since it's a work phone

Well, they didn't say it was an employer provided phone, just a phone they used for work.  My guess is that they kept an old phone for this purpose because they did not want their employer having control of their personal device.  if it is an employer provided device, then the employer should replace it.

I just got the update this afternoon.  When faced with the welcome screen, I had the option to start the tutorial or go straight to the home screen.  Since I already knew what was coming, I went straight to the home screen. Granted that text was considerably smaller and in a deliberately transparent font, but it was there, right above Welcome.  Did restarting the phone bring you back to the original welcome screen, or did it take you back to where it left of with the "continue" on the wrong side of the screen?

Thanks for the the replies everyone. I am indeed using it as a work phone as I don't trust my employer, they definitely monitor our laptops. So I don't want anything work related on my "normal use" personal phone.

I will probably get the screen fixed at some point, it's less than 200 bucks which is about a 1/3 of what I paid when I got it fixed just 2 years ago. I'm a bit clumsy 😁

A restart didn't work. I think I already started the tutorial when it first rebooted so it just brings me back there.

I did another post about accessing frozen screen and got some good tips. Dex didn't work. Will try scrcpy (think that's how you spell it) today & if that doesn't work, will buy an adaptor to plug a mouse into my phone & that will definitely sort the issue. Thanks again, all suggestions appreciated šŸ™šŸ’–
