Fingerprint sensor not reading my fingerprints

For the past few weeks my fingerprint sensor has had trouble reading my fingerprints.

I read the troubleshooting suggestions and followed all of them except for factory reset. But mainly I would delete and re-enter my fingerprints. And during this time even adding my fingerprints was a chore. It took a lot longer for the sensor to recognize to 100%.
I now notice that after a restart the sensor seems to forget my fingerprints. And now instead of deleting and re-adding I just check the added fingerprints until they are recognized and it starts working fine. It is truly baffling how finicky my fingerprint sensor is nowadays.
Apparently there was an update that took away our ability to schedule phone restarts. I just turned off auto restart so I will see if I have issues with my fingerprint sensor going forward.

I know this was long and drawn out but has anybody else experienced this?

Hello, We understand how frustrating it is when your fingerprints are not working correctly.

Have you tried all of the steps listed here? https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01200322

There are some other steps after the "No, I need more help" option on the page, if all the steps have been tried it is possible there is a hardware defect in the device.

We would recommend repairs at that point in order to have the device evaluated by the techs. You can use the following link to find a list of service centers in the U.S. that can do the repair: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/location or by contacting customer support at 1-800-726-7864.

Hey there @UserP, I hope you're doing well.

You're not the only one, I felt like this was an issue for me not too long ago. It seems like the November update(s) is where it started for me but now it seems to be fine. I tried all that you also said you did. I re-did my fingerprints, rebooted 100 times and cleared my cache. I'm not sure what did the trick for me but mine is working normal again. I do know that if your fingers are on the dry side, that it can make it difficult to scan. For me, I've kept my hands moisturized and am no longer having this issue. Also, I noticed around the time I got the December update, it seemed to stabilize. What is your current build?

Sorry for the late reply. My build # S908BXXU2BVL1. Now I noticed that a restart doesn't cause a problem. Just periodically throughout the day the phone will get finicky. Sometimes right away sometimes later. Sometimes I have to press harder. And I don't have a screen protector.
