S21 Ultra - Cant change Notification Sound for texts

Galaxy S21 Ultra - Can't change notification alert sounds. Phone keeps using "Verizon alert" notification sound for text messages even though it is not selected. 

Any other phone notifications come through correctly... only texts cannot change the audible alert.

Phone has the latest update as of 2/3/21

Wondering if it was coding ported over from data transfer of old S9+ or if other verizon customers were able to change their Notification sound without issues?

I have had the issue where I haven't been able to change any of my notification sounds from the default one. on my s9 there would be like a different sound for snapchat, facebook messenger, etc, but these are all just the default one. even when I went in and supposedly changed the sound for text messages it didn't actually change

I agree with benzilla. I'm looking for the unique app notification sounds. With that I know what I can ignore and what I should address. When every app notifies with the same sound it can be a little annoying.

I found that I can change an individual chat notification on the S21, but not within a group chat. I had a few group chats with the lowest tone notification and now they're all the same.

Had trouble finding it but finally... You can change the sound for any app on Galaxy S21. 

For text messages go to the app Settings->Notifications and tap on General notifications. It looks like just a toggle but actually opens the entire menu with different notification settings.

• Similar with the other apps. Go to phone settings -> Apps and select your app. Go to the Notifications page and tap on the Messages option (also toggle). Opens a new menu with different notification options.

Thanks! This worked. I was going crazy thinking every notification was a text. Really poor job on Sumsung for screwing this up.

That solution doesn't work for me.  Maybe the difference is that I am using Verizon Message+ for text messaging.  I can change the notification for other apps, but not this one.  If I change it in the app, it changes the default notification for the phone.

I can change the Message plus sound.  Settings-> Notifications->Message+(long press)->New Message(Long Press) then Long Press on Sound and select the sound.

When I press "settings", "notifications," there is no "messages" to press.
