S21 Ultra display flickers with 120hz enabled

I noticed that dark backgrounds (like email app or Slack with night mode) exhibit noticeable brightness fluctuations when adaptive motion smoothness is enabled. This happens only when the display is not being touched or when 120hz is not being triggered by some gesture or animation/video. Basically when I start scrolling the flickering disappears.

Also noticed that flickering frequency somewhat matches some of the status bar icon animations or text caret blinking on input fields and it might disappear completely if there is no screen update at all. Basically every small change on screen triggers flicker.

This is most noticeable at low brightness levels (20-30%) with dark background colors. I tested another Exynos S21 Ultra and got the same flickering so I don't think this is isolated issue. Has anyone experienced something similar and is this a normal behavior? If not, are there any solutions?

did this start happening after the latest software update or something?

are you using WQHD+ or FHD+ for screen resolution? vivid or natural for screen mode? do you have eye comfort shield enabled?

It makes no difference, tried all combinations and flickering is still there. I got the phone about 3 weeks ago and received one update (may 1) since, still happening before and after the update.
