It may or may not receive 5G speeds but 5G is only a name. 5G is actually the type of antenna which can work on the "5G" frequencies.... short bandwaves.
It also depends on where you are. There are some apps that can show you where the towers are in your area and what types of signals they're putting out. There are also some that can show you the signal type and let you switch it.
Locked or unlocked does not really matter. The SIM card that has your carrier's info can also carry the symbols for the network type. AT&T was the first carrier to provide a 5G symbol, which was before 5G was released. The newest version of this on AT&T is 5Ge. Both their old 5G, and 5Ge symbols are actually LTE (4G). What is likely happening here is that you are on a signal that ONLY provides 4G. Go to:
Settings | Connections | Mobile Networks | Access Point Names
For 5G on AT&T, you would need to be either connected to the ATT Enhancedphone, or NXTGENPHONE APN. If yours sais ATT Broadband, then you are on a 4G network. In this case, click Add at the top, and then enter the fields as such:
