Ford Sync doesn't automatically connect on Android 13

I have a vehicle with Ford Sync, since the Android 13 update my phone does not properly auto connect to the Sync system. On the radio, it shows a Bluetooth connection. If I receive a phone call it always shows up as an unknown number, when I answer I can talk for about a minute and all of a sudden the sound cuts out, the radio starts playing again and on the phone it still says I have a Bluetooth connection. I have to switch to the speaker or the phone to continue the call. Or, it will read there's a connection on the screen, and I get a call and it won't do anything at all. Then I have to spend about 30 minutes disconnecting and reconnecting the Bluetooth to the Sync system until it actually works, and then again for only about a minute before it cuts out and does the above mentioned. Again, all after the Android 13 update. Samsung wants me to detail to them and possibly record what happens.

  • I am having the EXACT same issues. It's driving me nuts. It used to be connected for calls and audio, but it doesn't do it anymore. Also, when I go in to check the settings for the Bluetooth connection it won't keep the calls or toggles into the on position.  When I try to do both at the same time it turns the other one off.  My Bluetooth is useless for calls now.  It's required in my state for making calls, what are we supposed to do now that it's all messed up.

Yeah, I sent an email and they said "oh you need to recreate the problem, tell us in detail what happens and when (which is all in the email I've sent them), and you should probably screen shot or record it and send it in so we can see what ya mean

I have an older model Escape with Sync 2 (2014) and had this exact issue with this last update to my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Here is how I fixed it.

Made sure I had a Ford.com account
Ended up having to Google the Sync update because I kept getting an error message when checking for updates. If this works for you, even better. Then I followed the directions for uploading the current SyncMyRide update to a USB drive. (note: it is easier to print the directions once you reach step 3) Then installed the update to the car via USB drive. It took about 30 mins to do, but issue solved. Turns out, it was an issue with Sync and not Samsung. This was a super simple fix that Ford wanted to charge me $200 for a diagnostic even though I told them what needed to be done. Guess they figure females don't know s@*t about cars, but this girl does. Then they said that if it was just an update, it would be another $150 to do. Why pay for something that is a free download? Complete B.S. if you call the "stealership" for fixing anything.

Lol. Unfortunately it's not the "let's charge the female more" thing. Even though your telling them you need a sync update they will run diagnostics which is the $200. Because, most service advisors aren't listening and are not on one accord with their service manager. I worked in a Ford dealership for about 4 years and have had plenty of guest come in and be told one thing by the service advisor or service manager and then the tech figures a simpler way out or what's really needed and it's "OH, guess what we found out !!" You, the customer, is telling the manufacturer that your car "needs service" and they have to figure out why does it "need" said service and then when they figure what service it needs, that you've already told them, then it's an extra $150 because that's what an hour of labor cost. 1.5 diag, 1.0 labor

@Kimmyb75 Thanks for that info! I found the download and instructions on the https://owner.ford.com/ site. The trickiest part was figuring out how to get my Mac to write to a FAT32 USB drive. Installation and update on the car went super smooth.

Hello, I was having the same problem with my Mercury Mariner. Unfortunately I can't update the sync as it all requires the VIN number and make and model for a Ford. What I did, was did a master reset on sync and then unpaired sync from my phone. I redid everything, and it works great now! Hope this helps!

I'm having this issue in my Lincoln mkz. I'm beyond frustrated and ready to pull my hair out. Every time I think I get it working I turn off the car and the next time it doesn't work again.
